Nemegtomaia barsboldi

Типовой и единственный вид рода был описан в 2004 году в составе рода Nemegtia [Lü, Tomida, Azuma, Dong, and Lee]. Однако позднее это имя было заменено на новое Nemegtomaia («Nemegt mother») в 2005 году, так ранее оно уже было преоккупировано. Видовое название N. barsboldi дано в честь палеонтолога Ринчена Барсболда (Rinchen Barsbold), одного из руководителей проекта Highland International Dinosaur Projects.

Из-за плохой сохранности скелета (кроме черепа, по сути, ничего не осталось), те же авторы первоначально определили этого динозавра в 2002 году как вид рода Ingenia. Однако, позднее выяснилось, что это совершенно новый вид и род и принадлежит он подсемейству Oviraptorinae (тероподы, овирапториды), а не Ingeniinae и может быть родственником Citipati.
