Дагар, Шарль

Шарль Дагар[1] (правильнее д’Агар[2]; фр. Charles d'Agar; 1669—1723) — французский[3] (по другим определениям — английский[4]) живописец, большую часть жизни работавший в Лондоне. Сын и ученик Жака д’Агара, видный портретист позднестюартовской и раннегеоргианской эпох.

Биография

Шарль Дагар родился в 1669 году в Париже в семье художника Жака д’Агара. Первые уроки получил от отца. В 1682 году Шарль последовал за отцом в изгнание в Лондон и затем в Копенгаген, где д’Агар-старший сделался придворным живописцем. Младший же Агар в 1691 году вернулся в Лондон, где много писал портретов по поручениям Герцога Баклю и лорда Болингброка. Поскольку он зачастую их не подписывал, многие портреты д’Агара традиционно приписывались его более знаменитому современнику Годфри Кнеллеру. Некоторые из его работ можно найти в Nunnington Hall.
