Кон, Вернер
Ве́рнер Кон (англ. Werner Cohn; 24 марта 1926[1], Берлин — 19 октября 2018[2], Бруклин, Нью-Йорк) — канадский социолог, специалист по политической социологии. Получил известность как исследователь политической истории евреев и культуры цыган.

Биография
В 1951 году получил бакалавра наук по социологии в Городском колледже Нью-Йорка.
В 1954 году получил степень магистра гуманитарных наук, защитив в Новой школе социальных исследований диссертацию по теме «Свидетели Иеговы как пролетарская секта» (англ. Jehovah's Witnesses as a Proletarian Sect). А. Л. Дворкин отмечал, что в этой работе Кон, проанализировав вероучительную литературу свидетелей Иеговы, установил связь их теологии с высокими показателями криминальности в их же среде, и пришёл к выводу, что «насилие, которое они изображают как совершаемое другими, в большей степени является проекцией их собственных импульсов»[3].
В 1956 году в Новой школе социальных исследований получил степень доктора философии, защитив диссертацию по теме «Политические расклады американского еврейства» (англ. The Political Alignments of American Jews).
В 1960—1986 годах — профессор кафедры антропологии и социологии Университета Британской Колумбии. В настоящее время профессор-эмерит[4].
Научная деятельность
Кон сосредоточил свою исследовательскую деятельность вокруг социологического изучения еврейского и других малых политических движений.
Кроме этого, он проявлял большой интерес к цыганам, которых впервые увидел в 1966—1967 годах во время отдыха во Франции. В дальнейшем он вернулся в Европу для изучения цыганской культуры и языка. Здесь он установил тесные связи с учёными цыганского происхождения, что переросло в плодотворное сотрудничество, вылившееся в множество статей в научных журналах и выпуску в 1973 году обширной монографии, где были обобщены итоги многолетних полевых исследований[5].
