Биография
Родился 5 января 1944 года в семье Хаймана Виктора Кантера и Корали Лилиан Кантер (в девичестве — Хайм)[2].
В 1964 году получил бакалавра гуманитарных наук с отличием в Ливерпульском университете и там же в 1969 году доктора философии[2].
В 1966—1970 годах — научный сотрудник, 1971—1972 годах — преподаватель (lector) Университета Стратклайда[2].
Преподаватель (1972—1978 годах — lector, 1978—1983 — reader), в 1983—1987 годах — профессор прикладной психологии, в 1987—1994 года — профессор психологии и в 1987—1991 года — заведующий кафедрой психологии Университета Суррея[2]; где занимался разработкой расследовательской психологии.
В 1981—2002 годах — ответственный редактор научного журнала Journal of Environmental Psychology[2].
С 1988 года — лицензированный психолог (англ. Chartered Psychologist, CPsychol)[2].
С 1994 года — профессор психологии, в настоящее время — профессор-эмерит психологии кафедры психологии Ливерпульского университета[2]. Был директором Центра расследовательской психологии Ливерпульского университета.
С 2003 года — ответственный редактор научного журнала Journal of Investigative Psychology and Offender Profiling[2].
В 2009—2018 годах — директор Международного исследовательского центра расследовательской журналистики Университета Хаддерсфилда[3].
Член Королевского общества искусств, член Академии общественных наук, член Американской психологической ассоциации, почётный член Общества судебной медицины, почётный член Психологического общества ЮАР, почётный иностранный член Японского института архитектуры[2].
